When outages strike, is your utility equipped with a comprehensive communications strategy?

By Allison Herdic, Industry Researcher –

For several years running, industry thought leaders from across North America have convened at Chartwell’s Outage Communications Conference to listen to forward-thinking presentations, engage in thoughtful conversations and create new relationships with industry peers that can be valuable year-round.

Chartwell researchers understand that each year, utilities are faced with storms, maintenance outages and unexpected blue-sky events. Concurrently, our conference content team is constantly identifying utilities that have risen to the occasion with ground-breaking outage communications approaches, thus fostering opportunities for an improved customer experience.

This year’s Outage Communications Conference, to be held June 6-7 in Chicago, is designed to provide answers to pressing questions, such as:

  • What technologies are other utilities using to relay key data from the field to customers?
  • How can analytics improve customers’ outage experience?
  • What’s trending in estimated time of restoration reporting?

Furthermore, Chartwell recently announced its list of six winners for our 2019 Outage Communications Best Practices Awards. At the 2019 Outage Communications Conference, this year’s Gold Award-winning utilities, Southern California Edison and Hydro Ottawa, will detail how they’ve leveraged their teams and technologies to connect with customers, even during times of unprecedented crisis.

In 2018, SRP was recognized with Chartwell’s Silver Best Practices Award among Large Utilities. Since 2015, the utility has increasingly leveraged its smart meter technology to better detect outages. However, through a dedicated Intelligent Outage Processing project, SRP has discovered how to drill down outage events to the individual meter level. As a result, benefits have ranged from improved outage response and communications to increased customer satisfaction.

A case study on this initiative was just published in Chartwell’s Insights Center, available to Chartwell Premier members with their login. As Chartwell’s goal is not only to create face-to-face opportunities to hear the industry’s cutting-edge outage-related programs and services, case studies like SRP’s and many more are designed to help your utility remain regularly connected with industry trends.

So, head on over to our Insights Center, then take a moment to register for Chartwell’s 2019 Outage Communications Conference, which is now less than two months out. The event will be held at the Embassy Suites Chicago Downtown Magnificent Mile, and now is the perfect time to make travel arrangements to attend. We look forward to seeing you in Chicago!
