Field Technology and Training – August 2022

The outage council’s August 2022 call featured a discussion of members’ efforts to leverage training and technology to improve communications from the field. Brad Sylliassen of Xcel Energy (12:06) shared his utility’s electric outage restoration application, which allows outage first responders to receive assigned outages, complete timely status updates, and close assignments to provide more accurate outage information back to customers. Problem solving (49:19) included questions from BGE on reflective strips on transformers in residential areas, from TEP on post-event messages, and from SDG&E on standards for mass notifications.
